Interactive Listening Lesson Children Love!  Pre K - Gr. 6

Discover how to take classical music from its sophisticated, mysterious realm to one that is child-centered and fascinating!  Through the inspiration and integration of children’s literature, the compelling music of the great composers is introduced through storytelling, drama, song, movement and instrumental play.

Children of all ages will be captivated by the engaging listening materials as they nourish many different ways children learn. Deborah will provide an introduction to the basic movement stimuli and the Laban movement efforts. She will demonstrate how they may be integrated into such favorites as:  Ballet of the Unhatched Chicks by Mussorgsky and Strauss’s Persian March.

Musical concepts and skills are reinforced as children identify and respond to articulation, dynamics, duration, tempo and form of the music.  Puppets, props and costumes are used to stimulate children’s imagination and  keep the focus on imaginative fun!  A visual representation of the music reinforces the form for visual learners as they conduct along; auditory learners thrive as they play along to the musical cues while kinesthetic learners hop, glide and march to the compelling music of the great composers.  Children will be inspired to create their own stories and drawings to the music through simple music maps.

Classroom teachers and music specialists are invited to attend this exciting full day session which will provide a multitude of materials for students of all skill levels and abilities.  Interactive listening lessons are also recommended for students with challenges and special needs.
